Improving Mental Fitness for Kids!

This week on the Healthy is Hot Podcast, I chat with @natalievonteichman, founder of miindfully - an innovative and exciting way to teach children about mindfulness and meditation! 

Mindfulness and meditation is something we often talk about amongst adults, but the conversation is shifting gears to the little ones! Mindfulness and meditation helps kids learn all about emotions, imagination, and their undiscovered superpower - breath! When kids learn things when they’re little, they’re creating new neural pathways early on. “With kids we can start them at a baseline where they’re learning this language where they can just grow into it.” -Natalie von Teichman

As parents, Natalie explains we have 3 pillars we think of as a whole:

  1. Physical fitness

  2. Education

  3. Mental fitness

Typically, families spend a lot of money and time on physical fitness and education, and Natalie explains that parents would never give their children a test or put them into a game before letting them practice. However, with mental fitness we often wait until there’s a problem, to treat it. Natalie wanted to start thinking about how can we bring mental fitness up to the level of physical fitness and education and start practicing our mental fitness proactively to set our children up for success when they really need it!
